Renpower Bulgaria 2025: The Future of Clean Energy

On October 2, starting at 09:00, the Sofia Balkan Palace will host Renpower Bulgaria 2025 – an international conference dedicated to renewable energy, sector policies, and investments. The event will bring together representatives from institutions, businesses, and the financial sector to discuss the key factors shaping Bulgaria’s energy transition.

In recent years, the country has established itself as one of the fastest-growing clean energy markets in the region. Installed solar capacity has increased from 1,300 MW in 2021 to over 4,500 MW at the beginning of 2025, a trend driven by a significant project pipeline of large photovoltaic parks and grid modernization.

With the accelerated growth of the solar sector, energy storage is coming to the forefront. The national RESTORE scheme envisions the deployment of over 6,000 MWh of battery storage capacity – both combined with RES projects and as standalone solutions. The first tender for renewable energy and storage has already allocated over 3 GW of new generating capacity and 1.176 GW of battery systems, marking significant progress for the country’s energy security.

Wind energy is also entering a new phase. Bulgaria is increasing its onshore installations and developing its first offshore projects in the Black Sea. The pilot BLOW initiative will test floating wind turbine technologies and could lay the groundwork for large-scale offshore projects in the future.

In parallel, green hydrogen is gaining momentum. In Stara Zagora, the H2START project has already launched, aiming to build infrastructure for the production, storage, and transportation of green hydrogen, supported by national and European programs.

Achieving the goal of a 34% share of energy from RES by 2030 and doubling the interconnector capacity to 10 GW will require a combination of a supportive regulatory framework and financial instruments. Among these are InvestEU and the National Decarbonization Fund, which are mobilizing public and private capital for investments in clean energy.

Renpower Bulgaria 2025 will present these key topics across 5 thematic panels, featuring over 20 international and Bulgarian experts.

Among the speakers is Dr. Eng. Veselin Todorov, Chairman of the Solar Academy Bulgaria Association and of the Council of Branch Organizations at the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI). He will participate in the panel “Bulgarian Large-Scale Solar: Market Outlook, Capacity Growth & Energy Storage Integration”, where he will present the prospects and challenges for the development of large-scale solar projects in the country.

The Solar Academy Bulgaria Association is an information partner of the event.
